少女赧然，發出咯咯一聲笑，空曠的雪地里，如空谷黃鶯一般。

“Not studying, sir, learning.”（不是復習，先生，是學習。）

說著，把那本大厚書交到了他手里。

書里都是七年級也不會學的高級魔藥。湯姆翻過吐真劑、福靈劑、死亡藥水等等，動作在書后面的一頁停了下來。

“The effects and uses of the Emerald Potion please, Miss Sayre.”（請告訴我翡翠藥水的功效和用途，瑟爾小姐。）

少女閉眼回憶了片刻。

“The Emerald Potion, otherwise known as the Drink of Despair, is a glowing green potion that could not be prated by hand, vanished, parted, scooped up, transfigured, or otherwise made to change its nature in any way. 湯姆笑著把書放進他的乾坤袋里，幫愛茉爾拿著。

愛茉爾也笑了。

兩人相視一笑，在霍格莫德村的入口處止住了腳步。

湯姆避開眼，選擇開個玩笑搪塞過去。

“Will you promise me to keep this between you and me, Miss Sayre? I’d still like to keep my job for a few more years.”（你得跟我保證，瑟爾小姐，將這話保密。我還想再在這兒多工作幾年。）

愛茉爾也笑了，垂下目光，把臉藏回了圍脖里。

“I promise, sir.”（我保證，先生。）

兩人間的沉默忽然就多了分尷尬，幾秒后，愛茉爾才把臉從圍脖里移出來，道：“Well, I’ll be on my way then, sir. Thank you for…for…”（那我這就進去了，先生。謝謝您……嗯……嗯……）

她不知道自己該如何道謝——謝謝他給她開后門，讓她能來霍格莫德？謝謝他沒有像施舍一樣讓她跟來，而是以讓她清點學生的方式——以他助手的身份——來霍格莫德？那一刻，愛茉爾忽然發現，很多話，里德爾教授只是不會掛在嘴上而已。

他打斷了她。

“I’ll probably need your help, Miss Sayre—you never know the trouble students get themselves into. I think it’s best if we stick together.” （我很可能需要你幫忙，瑟爾小姐——你永遠不知道學生們能惹出多少麻煩。我認為咱們最好待在一起。）

愛茉爾意識到自己難以壓抑唇角泛起的笑容，忙重新把臉藏回了圍脖里。

“Good idea, sir.”（好主意，先生。）

“After you, Miss Sayre.”（請進，瑟爾小姐。）

尾注：

翡翠藥水其實就是原著里伏地魔用來在山洞里保護掛墜盒的藥劑。這里是用翡翠藥水象征對權力的渴望和對死亡的恐懼，愛茉爾（她名字的意思是‘愛’）說出了解藥的成分，也代表愛戰勝了絕望，是一種象征手法。

沒想到霍格莫德這一段要有叁章。下面一章應該是臨時起意加的最后一章，然后就能按安排走了。

哈哈翡翠藥水這段讓我想起我博資考那段時間。哈佛以注重傳統著稱，但我當時真沒想到像MIT這種工科校也會那么重視并不實用的博資考，甚至在有些方面比哈佛還重視……

現在有時候晚上做噩夢都是博二博資考的時候，在教授們面前在黑板上現場做證明的場景，然后總是快到最后有一步做不出來哈哈哈，然后被嚇醒。太可怕了，比現實里還可怕，比解不出題更可怕的就是當著教授解不出題。寫這段算是讓可怕的過往變得沒那么可怕——乃至溫馨——吧。
